- Check your mobile operator's latest Jammu and Kashmir roaming rules; a prepaid connection from elsewhere in India may not work as expected.
- Save offline copies of hotel addresses, tickets and emergency contacts. Do not depend on coverage beyond major towns.
- Carry identification for hotels and any route requiring a checkpost or permit. Foreign visitors should confirm their specific documentation requirements.
- Keep flexible tickets where possible if winter weather or mountain-road conditions are central to your plan.
On the road
Drive times are estimates, not promises. Snow, rain, checkposts, local transport rules and visitor traffic can change them in a single day. Ask whether your booked car can enter each side valley; some excursions require a separate local union vehicle. Confirm pickup points and the full fare before accepting pony, shikara or taxi services.
